The Building Blocks Forum: Restorative Approaches to Public Safety will be held on 10/27

What is Building Blocks?
The Building Blocks Project is a new and ongoing civic engagement initiative aimed at breaking down barriers between public safety stakeholders and community residents, including some who have cycled through the criminal justice system.

Participants from West Garfield Park and North Lawndale use peace circles as a framework to build relationships and address conflict in an environment of respect, listening, and truth-telling. Along with activities like meal sharing and resident-led local tours, the Building Blocks Project hopes to create a space for collaborative dialogue that leads to safer and stronger communities.

What to expect at the Building Blocks Forum?
The afternoon’s program includes a showcase of the project by UIC’s Center for Public Safety and Justice, discussion of personal experiences by participants, as well as a reception with light refreshments to follow.
